Pakistan And Turkey Planning To Offer Dual Nationality. Turkey and Pakistan are considering a plan to make it possible for the people of both countries to have dual nationality, in what would be a significant increase in relations.
During a meeting between Pakistan’s interior minister Ijaz Ahmad Shah and Turkish ambassador to Pakistan Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, the plan, which was unveiled yesterday, came to light.
As Yurdakul proposed the move, Shah responded by saying that the law draft is “under consideration” and that “we hope to come to a mutual conclusion soon,” according to the Ministry of the Interior.
Also discussed was the improvement of the consequent bilateral relations, particularly that of military cooperation, with the upgrading of law enforcement equipment and training operations being touched upon.
‘ The Minister of the Interior welcomed the initiative to create a patrol force in collaboration with ICT [ Islamabad Capital Territory ] Police on the Dolphin Force model implemented in Lahore, ‘ said the ministry’s announcement, referring to the elite security force in the province of Punjab, launched in 2016 and partly trained by Turkey to tackle street crime and ensure safety.
Yurdakul also pointed out to Shah that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Pakistan in the near future, and that Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu is scheduled to visit the country in February to discuss with Shah other matters.
If both Pakistani and Turkish citizens were able to attain citizenship and dual passports from each other’s countries, it would mark the largest bilateral move in the history of both the young nations and add significantly to their already strong relations.
Pakistan extended Turkey’s time earlier this month to supply domestically-made T129 attack helicopters, which were delayed due to the sanctions that the US put on Turkey.
